Our COVID-19 Update

We started farming because we wanted to take care of our community, and we wanted to build resilience in a changing climate. We’re grounding in those values as we look toward the next few weeks and months of a global COVID-19 pandemic.

No matter what happens, we’re going to need to eat, and we’re committed to growing food for you. It’s worth noting that there’s no evidence that food is a transmission route or source for COVID-19.

The situation is changing moment by moment, and so our plans will change, too, but we want to keep you up-to-date on our current contingency plans.

Here’s what we’re planning for the Petworth Community Market:

  • We’re taking pre-orders to allow our market friends to grab and go. Learn more here.

  • We’re revamping our market setup so that there’s a barrier between the public and our produce. Only our market staff will touch produce.

  • We’re only accepting exact change and using a contactless credit card reader. Only one person will handle transactions.

  • We’ll be masked up, wearing gloves, and sanitizing surfaces.

Also, here’s what we’ll continue to do:

  • Our work trade program is on hold until shelter in place orders are lifted.

  • We’re implementing our food safety plan with our team, which includes staying home when you’re sick and lots of handwashing. We also implemented a new paid sick time policy for full-time staff this season.

  • We’re staying informed about best practices for keeping our teammates and wider farm family safe and healthy.

  • We’re using our new Food Access Fund to get fresh vegetables to affected folks.

We know we’ll get through this, and we know that we will get through it together.

Wishing you all health and safety,

Liz and the Owl’s Nest Farm team
