Owl's Nest farm is 100% woman-owned!

your farmer

Liz has worked on diversified vegetable farms since 2009, including several small farms in the DC metro region. As the owner/operator of Owl's Nest Farm, she loves working hard, growing healthy food and building strong relationships. Liz uses she/her pronouns and she is really into kale.

the farm

Owl's Nest Farm started in 2016. When Liz's former CSA farmer, Kristin from Radix Farm, decided to sell her farm operation, Liz jumped at the chance to take over caring for the land and growing good food for great people in DC.

S

S grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania surrounded on every side by farm land. They worked in DC at the Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture as their 2017 Farm Education Assistant, teaching K-6th graders in the DMV about topics from pollination to local planting and harvesting, and maintaining the Hilltop Farm. They have also been a part of Chaia – a woman-owned, seasonal vegetarian, taco shop – for the past three years as a worker in farmer’s markets and Assistant General Manager in their brick and mortar store.

When they don’t have their hands covered in soil, S is a community organizer for DC Fair Food - standing in solidarity with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers where they were a part of the national Steering Committee for the Wendy’s Boycott in 2017. Since moving to DC six years ago, they have been in a state of awe at the beauty and resilience of the local food and food justice world being created here. They're excited about being a part of the magic that happens at Owl's Nest for a second year in 2019.

Maddie

Maddie (she/hers) is originally from just up 495 in Rockville, MD. As someone who holds near and dear to her heart the community and joy that good food can bring, Maddie is excited to have the opportunity to (literally) grow that love at Owl’s Nest. Though she has worked variously in the education andnonprofit sectors, Maddie has always found herself drawn to growing, cooking, and sharing food.

Shehopes to see you at the Petworth Market on Saturdays or at our CSA pickup on Tuesday nights. Maddie is always down to talk recipes and has what can only be described as a passionate attachment to cooking with garlic.

isa

Isa grew up in Frederick, MD, where they spent much of their childhood climbing trees and eating tomatoes as if they were apples. Working at Owl’s Nest feels to them like the ideal way to celebrate their love of food and cultivate a resilient future at the same time. They are a deep believer in the magic of morning fog, fresh picked veggies, and dancing in kitchens. They also like making art and hanging out with dogs. Isa uses they/them pronouns and also works at Deep Roots Farm.

jon

Jon grew up in Silver Spring, and has been living in DC since graduating from the University of Maryland in 2011.  After several years in the non-profit world organizing college students around dining hall supply chains, he worked full time at DC restaurant Momofuku CCDC for a year before jumping into farm work.  In the past four seasons, he has bounced around a half-dozen different farms growing vegetables, herbs, flowers, microgreens, and livestock.  He loves learning, laughing, sharing, and being outside.  The 2020 season will be his third year as a part time worker at Owl's Nest Farm.

Please note: the farm is not open to the public at this time.
